Drawing Cornwall Coast path stile colour Tintagel Castle Green

Drawing of Stile on Cornwall coast path, Tintagel castle

Only time to post a quick drawing this week. No time for painting, alas, or walking. Just toiling for the man. But next week – ah, I will be strolling in the sunshine!

Hope you enjoy your weekend.

Pencil Drawing – ‘Shore’

Shore rocks abstract pencil drawing

‘Shore’ – Pencil drawing on paper ( 16.6×18 ins / 42×46 cm )

Here’s one of my drawings from a while back. Still one of my favourites. It’s pretty abstracted, but it always reminds me of rocks and the flotsam on the shore, so I gave it a title.  Maybe I’ll get around to framing it sometime (the frame here is virtual, not real, alas.) It’s quite a large drawing, and I’d really like to do some more like that. I’ve just ordered some large size heavyweight paper, so maybe I will.

I’m taking part in an exhibition by my art group – Gwynngala – over the Easter weekend at Cowslips Studio, Launceston, North Cornwall . There’ll be paintings and quilts and textile art (including some new work of mine!). They have a wonderful cafe with excellent food, too. Worth a visit.

Happy springtime!

Sketching at Lanterdan Quarry

Lanterdan Quarry Cornwall Coast Drawing

Sketching at Lanterdan Quarry near Trebarwith Strand

Was out here sketching a couple of days ago. I really love drawing the Cornwall rock formations, and this pillar is especially interesting because it’s been so hacked about – the angles are so irregular and very challenging to capture. This pillar is the reject stone, apparently – it wasn’t worth quarrying, so the men worked around it. What a stunning reject! Read more at Lanterdan Quarry

This is a preparatory drawing for the first painting in a new series. Been wanting to paint this little stretch of coast for a while – now is the time! Watch this space.

Sketching in Bude

Bude green spring watercolour painting

Bude Sketch

Watercolour, 30 x 20 cm/11.5 x 8 ins

Bude was surprisingly green the other day. I drew this from the lovely Wroes coffee shop. My first time sketching in a café – only got a few strange looks! I had to wait until I got home to put the colour washes on – by the time I’d finished drawing, the view was obscured by rain. Bude’s still a great place to draw, though, even in the mizzle. You can see a couple of my other paintings of Bude  here and here . Both are still available on my website should you be interested.

Thanks for looking, and hope you’re having a good weekend.
